Cybergeddon by Yahoo

Watched this online movie last night.

'Cybergeddon' is an action-packed 95-minute series that's made its debut on Yahoo!. Directed by Anthony E. Zuiker who conquered the TV world with the ridiculously successful 'CSI' franchise. (Phew! My all time favorite TV series)

Framed for a cyber-crime she didn't commit, FBI Special Agent Chloe Jocelyn is forced to go on the run  - trying to crack the ring before they make their big strike.  With the help of a fellow agent and an incarcerated hacker, Chloe discovers that Gustov Dobreff, the head of a global confederacy of cyber criminals is behind all these.

I am anticipating for the sequel(s?) to come.

Saatchi's Skin & Walls

On 25 Sep 2012.

Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore has invited Vanini Belarmino, Managing Director of Belarmino & Partners, to curate the premiere exhibition “Skin and Walls”, for the Saatchi Art Hallways.

Featuring Ziquan Lan, Jahan Loh, Tommy Morris, Joseph Siow and Andrée Weschler, this exhibition combines creative mediums that employ the layerings of the body and the concrete and virtual walls as the canvas in the artistic creation.

“Skin and Walls”sees the initial attempt of Saatchi & Saatchi to bring art, creativity and technology under their roof to allow new inspirations to flourish.

Attended the event with my colleagues and, you know what, I had a new tattoo on my right wrist by Joseph of Visual Orgasm. For free some more. ^^

Another Test

I like the function that the focal point can be easily changed by tapping our finger on the display. And can zoom in at the same time.

Test Shots

Some of my friends were telling me that compare to iPhone, photos taken with Samsung Galaxy S3 are not as good.  But I beg to differ.  Here are some shots using the build-in camera apps.  I purposely choose small objects, in this case, my watches for the test. The quality is reasonably acceptable.  Quite sharp too - I can see all the dirts typically unavoidable to close-up shoot.  But of course, if you use the digital zoom effect, certain level of degradation is expected.

Next round, I will shoot even smaller objects, may be rings or earrings.  Let see how it scores.

Instagram | PowerCam

I have changed my mobile to Samsung Galaxy SIII.  Wow!  The screen is superb, images are crisp and the colors are vibrant and accurate.  Now I am kind of addicted to shoot photos with Instagram and PowerCam.  Look at the effects then you will know why.

The first two are by Instagram, the last one by PowerCam.

Tintype Portraits

If you happen to be in San Francisco, do pay a visit to this tintype portrait studio called Photobooth, on Valencia Street to have an unique, one-of-a-kind portrait. The effects are superb, which won't be able to get in digital photography.

Go here to watch the video by Cool Hunting that shows how the process works.

A little background

In August of 2011 photographer Michael Shindler did something that to some might sound a little ludicrous. He had spent the last six years learning a cumbersome photographic process invented in the 1850s called Wet-Plate Collodion process that relies on metal plates to print photographs, and decided to use his unique skills to open the world’s only tintype portrait studio called Photobooth on Valencia street in San Francisco. In an age when even the use of regular film has taken the backseat to an exponential explosion of megapixels, Shindler was going to go seriously old school, opening a kind of commercial portrait studio that hadn’t been seen since the 1930s. To get some perspective this is like a musician announcing that their next album was coming out exclusively on phonograph. Here’s some more information on the process:
The Wet-Plate Collodion process, first introduced in 1851, involves coating an enameled metal or glass plate with a collodion mixture, which is then sensitized, exposed and processed all within a few minutes and while the plate is still wet. The resulting image (while technically a negative) is made up of extremely fine silver particles that are creamy-white in color, which allows the image to be viewed as a positive when seen against a black background.

During Train Ride @ 080912

Got nothing better to do, so tried out some apps on my ipod and immediately dazed by some of the filters of PowerCam.  Love the effects.

STGCC 2012

To me, the main highlights of this year STGCC are those realistic, high quality collectible figures from Hot Toys.  I came to know this Hong Kong-based production house through the series of ridiculously detailed Iron Man collectible figurines that I'd drooled for so many years.  How I wish i have the mean and space to collect and display them. Mark VII, est. ship date by end of 1st quarter 2013, can be pre-ordered at the exhibition booth. OMG! Very nice.

As I reached the exhibition hall quite late, almost 5pm in the evening, I didn't have the chance to meet some of the artists I have already heard of. But I did got to know other up-coming artists and their works. ^_^

Artist : Tristan Eaton

Have bought this lovely print (edition 20/20) by NY-based artist Tristan Eaton.

Too bad, this Yoda print is not for sale.

Artist : Ng Shi Kian
Get an A2 laminated poster of this beautifully executed black & white painting. Superb.

Free gifts from him.  Thanks.

postcard and sticker of Hell Lotus
I dunno if this special ed. middle finger pointing Hell Lotus is available for sale.

I'd also missed an old friend, more precisely ex-colleague from Singapore Press who is now a full-time comic artist.  I didn't know there was a book launch till very late.  His new book Ten Sticks And One Rice will be releasing this coming November. Congrats !!!
