Commonwealth & Holland V Heritage Tour

Another early Sunday heritage tour organised by My Community from 8:30am till 12:30pm, a 4 hours walk starting at Holland V MRT.

It was considerably a large group - total 52 participants., not including the helpers.

Thambi Magazine Store - one of the most iconic newsstand in Singapore.
Address: 211 Holland Avenue, #01-K4, Holland Road Shopping Centre.

At its peak, the newsstand carried 7,000 titles from all around the world, now reduced to about 3,000.

The Ying Fo Fui Kun Cemetery (應和會館) at Chuang Long Shan Wu Shu Ancestral Hall is Singapore's last remaining Hakka cemetery.

I was told that the owner, Mr Ong is one of Singapore’s last experts in the traditional art of 

ear cleaning,  an experience which was truly heavenly and relaxing, only available for men.

This antique telephone and TV displayed at MOE Heritage Centre remind me of my home in Sabah, East Malaysia.

The Indian House @2 Pierce Road

The two-storey tropical black and white Tudor-bethan bungalow was thought to be commissioned by wealthy businessman, Ong Sam Leong, in 1911. In 1949, the Government of India purchased the bungalow and rebuilt the bungalow to reinstate its former features. The bungalow serves as the residence for the High Commissioner of India and it was gazetted for conservation in 1991.
