My Penang & Bangkok Trip : 3rd Day (11 Jun 2018)

Good morning, Monday.

Enjoying a jacuzzi early morning at the rooftop with such a view is definitely recommended.

Anyway, today we started our long-hour bus cum train journey. Coach from Penang to Hatyai took us 5 hours (S$13.62) whereas train from Hatyai to Bangkok was 15 hours (S$73).
Traffic jam in Penang.

The crossing between Malaysia and Hatyai Customs was quite smooth.  First, it was not crowded, and secondly we didn't need to carry our luggages, could just leave them in the vehicles.

Shown here is train No. 32 from Hatyai Jn to Bangkok, departing at 18:45.

There are 5 direct train services a day from Hat Yai to Bangkok, with only two trains (no. 38 and 32) providing 1st Class Berth. Train no. 32 is newer thus higher ticket price - Lower Berth THB1,794 / Upper Berth THB1,594.  Ticket for train no. 38 which departs 30 mins earlier is THB200 cheaper each berth.

So love the 1st class sleeper cabin. I do not know the design of the older one, but there are connecting doors between our two cabins that we opened up and converted them into a suite-like space where we could see each other and enjoy dinner together.

Above is 2nd classs A/C sleeper.

Our 1st A/C sleeper cabins.

Even got a tv screen each berth to tell if the shower room and toilets are occupied. There are also USB and 2-pin sockets for each berth to charge your phone, iPad and whatever.  Dinner and breakfast are served as well.  It's really worthwhile.

Layout of 1st class A/C Sleeper on Train no. 32.
There are connecting doors for berth nos. 1-4, 6-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20 and 21-24.
Ours were berth nos. 21-24.
One more thing, only buying online through www.thairailwayticket.com directly allows you to select your berth number.  If you buy the train ticket through travel agency, you can only do it at the train station on first-come first-served basis.

Dinner was here.
Time to eat, rest, read a book and sleep.
