She had injured her foot about two weeks before she finally agreed to go to the clinic on Friday night, 25 Sep. The doctor warned her that if the condition did not improve after completing the course of antibiotics, she would need to go to the hospital.
Unfortunately, before she could even finish the antibiotics, I had to call an ambulance on Sunday morning because she was experiencing shortness of breath and nausea. She was admitted to SKGH shortly afterwards.
Her blood sugar level was extremely high, and the doctors discovered that the blood vessels in her leg were blocked, which had caused gangrene to develop in her toe.
After conducting CT scans, the doctors confirmed that she urgently needed surgery to unblock the blood vessels and remove the infected toe. But she refused. She was adamant that she did not want to undergo the operation. I received numerous calls from different doctors trying to explain the seriousness of her condition and the risks involved.
We spent two days trying to convince her. Things got so difficult that, at her insistence, we even had to contact the liaison in JB for Kok Chong Ming Fate Analysis to do a 測字 (Character Divination) to ask whether she really needed to go under the knife.
She was convinced that she had encountered a ghost and believed that the infection could somehow be stopped by burning some sort of talisman. Gosh!!! At that point, we really didn't know what else to do.
We explained the whole situation to the liaison and told her exactly what the doctors had found. Even the liaison told my mum that, whether or not she had encountered a ghost, given her current medical condition, she still needed to undergo the operation.
After receiving the result of the character divination and speaking directly with the liaison, my mum finally agreed to sign the consent form on Tuesday late afternoon, 29 Sep. Phew! What a nightmare and a massive headache. But at least she finally agreed to go ahead with the operation.
The operation went well on Wed, 30 Sep. For now, she still needs to remain in the hospital for observation, while the doctors continue to monitor and manage her blood sugar levels with insulin injections.
Here is the result of character divination. (I do not have the images of my mum's written characters). I do like the explanation.
