Missile Bookshelf

Wow wow! "Of War & Wits & Power" is the latest from the Singapore-based industrial designer Daniel Loves Objects.





On its origin, Daniel says:
"Driven by the recent crisis of certain countries who got very uptight over issues of being asked to disarm their missile test launched, their alarming action to remain hostile and persistent in their belief had stirred me to create this part of a furniture combination to depict their behavioral trait, a bookshelf with their golden army, strategically placed underneath, to uphold and to protect their ultimate plans, frozen in time for all to see."

Got to love it, especially that fascinating "military base".

Bookshelf Portraits

Can you tell that all these are actually paintings ? Australian artist Victoria Reichelt has been painting bookshelf portraits for a few years. Recently, she began painting portraits of the bookshelves of actual people.

"This was a different way to do a portrait - because the decisions people make about the books they choose to buy, keep and display, reveals a lot about them. It offers a deeper insight into their interests and inspirations"

Oh Yes! What a person reads does tell us a lot about them.

New Books from Brazil

Remember Andrés Sandoval, a Brazilian based artist I had mentioned a while ago ? The books I ordered from Livraria da Travessa have finally arrived last week. They are Viagens para lugares que eu nunca fui, De como o mulato porciúncula descarregou seu defunto and Histórias para ler sem pressa.  Lovely illustrations.

It is a shame that all illustrations in this particular book are in monotone. I'm kind of quite like the full color versions displayed in his website.

A Fascinating Library

L House, a white house with pink accent and a fascinating library, was designed by Philippe Steubi Architekten GMBH in 2005. 

"The three-sided glazing of the library in the ground floor is mirrored-glass. Depending upon time of day and lighting conditions you can see the stored books or the reflected graden. The upper floors are implemented in bright lime rendering and the glazings in nature-anodized aluminium."

There is a saying that money cannot buy taste. Obviously, the owner of this beautiful library has money and taste.

Bookshelves to Die In

Wow! This is really something that suggests and even encourages life-long use.

Shelves for Life, a self-initiated project by designer William Warren in 2006, are CNC cut in oak veneered plywood to the customer's measurements. They are intended to be used throughout life as storage for personal belongings (I am talking about books in this case.). On death, the shelves are dismantled and rebuilt as a coffin.  How sweet!

You know what?  This project is currently (or finally) in production.  I will be very "muchy" happy to receive such a wonderful gift in the near future.  By the way, I am 165cm tall, medium build.

Naked Furniture

With furniture like these, I wouldn't be able to concentrate on my reading .....

The bookshelf is from Mobilario Humano, one of the fanciful suggestions for furniture designs by David Blázquez which use the photographer himself as the subject. The sexy chair is by Allen Jones in 1969.

Blooming Time for Flowers

Someday before the end of March,
somewhere near Farrer Park MRT,
beautiful yellow flowers in full bloom,
on a lonely tree comforted by a rusty bicycle,
under a bright sun tempered by light breeze,
and a lots of bees flying around,
with me sitting on the stairs idling,
sipping a can of winter melon drink,
imaginating, day-dreaming and do nothing,
Phew! what a peaceful day.
