My Manga Collection

#mymangacollection #mangacollection #allaboutmanga

Has been asked about it a few times. So here is it. According to my last update in Dec 2016, I’ve collected 5800 vols, not a small number I guess and still growing, though I buy less nowadays. May be not much by looking at the photos. Due to space constraint, I’ve to stack them in three lines each shelf. πŸ˜“ To lessen the pain and time to search for a particular manga, I’ve roughly arranged them according to authors/artists, genres, and even made a list of those hidden deep inside.

Answer to another Q : Nope. I do not lend them out. Bad experience of losing a few hard-to-find vols of a particular manga is enough whenever I look at the incomplete collection. So shitty!

To answer the few specific Qs.

The three main size of manga (Japanese/Taiwan/HK) are:
- 17.5cm H x 11.5cm W
(80% plus are in this generic size)
- 18.7cm H x 13cm W
- 21cm H x 14.5cm W

So the reasons I use IKEA BESTA bookshelves are :-
1) The depth of 38cm allows me to stack them in 3 lines (for Generic) or 2 lines (for larger manga) due to space constraints;
2) The flexibility of the height between each shelf;
3) I do not want ‘fixed’ bookshelves. With BESTA, I can re-arrange the whole layout when necessary and even replace them with a new one as long as they are still in production. Even custom-made one with same measurement is possible, though a bit pricey;
4) Of course, cost plays a part. Previously I used Billy series (the 80cm L) but believe me, it is the worse one. The shelf boards simply warped beyond acceptance after a few months. May be the 40cm L still stand a chance, but I am not going to try it. πŸ™‚
