Radicalised

Radicalised by Cory Doctorow.

The book contains four thought provoking,  at times downright disheartening and yet entertaining self-contained short stories, each taking on a meaningful social issue we are facing now.

My favourites are "Radicalised" as well as the first story, "Unauthorised Bread".

"Radicalised" is the story of a desperate husband, a darkness forum and the birth of a violent uprising against the US health care system.

"Unauthorised Bread" is a tale of immigration, toxic economic stratification and a young woman's perilously illegal quest to fix a broken toaster.

In short, it is a collection that touch bothering issues - refugees, racism, terrorism and organisations.

Some excerpts that are brutally honest :

"Look, Eagle, all I'm trying to say is that if your goal is to make sure that WR gets a fair trial, you're not achieving that goal. If your job is to muster public sentiment for police accountability, you're really not achieving the goal. I will stipulate that you're right about everything, but this isn't about right and wrong. You can be right, or you can be effective. Being effective means not reminding the entire human race that you are an unstoppable spaceman who only follows the rules when it suits you. As soon as you start reminding them of that fact, it will become the focus."

"Running headfirst into the system doesn't change the system, it just gives you a headache."

"Be realistic. This is the best we can hope for right now. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."
