A novel by John Steinbeck fashioned for adaptation for the theatre. The story tells of the military occupation of a small town in Northern Europe by the army of an unnamed nation at war with England and Russia.

Much In Evidence by Henry Cecil

William Richmond is bald and lame. But that is not his only misfortune. On the very night he has £100,000 in his safe, his home is broken into and he is beaten up. His insurance company pays up - but they are highly suspicious. It would appear that a series of bald and lame men have been making dubious insurance claims. In this hilarious trial novel we see how amazing coincidences can really happen.

Coincidences abound in this book, until you just don't know what to believe. It is farcical and very funny, especially the two robbery cases by men posing as telephone repairmen and the ending, which are so hilarious, make me wanna scream "What a coincidence!".

This copy was 1st published by Michael Joseph Ltd, London in 1957. Bought it at $2 from Epigram Booksale.

Pg 220 THE BOOK

Lack of update does not mean I am not reading.  I am on Keith Houston's THE BOOK, A COVER-TO-COVER EXPLORATION OF THE MOST POWERFUL OBJECT OF OUR TIME.  In it, the author reveals that  the paper, ink, thread, glue, and then board from which a book is made tells as rich a story as the words on its pages - of civilizations, empires, human ingenuity, and madness.  Really fascinating, at times with some humorous, if not sarcastic remarks.

This uncle looks so fierce.

These two ladies are friends, yet they rather choose to sit separately with their shopping bags
occupying a seat space each, looking at their mobiles and occasionally speak loudly to each other.
Why can't they sit close to each other with their shopping bags on their laps so others can have the seats,
even the train is not yet full?

I am not surprised nowadays older generations are very savvy.
These couples are trying out the functions on her mobile.
Few nights ago I happened upon 2 sixtyish uncles cycling with iPhones mounted in front as GPS. 👍
 My mum can't even send msg with her smartphone 😂
